Long Beach Symphony presents Dvorák?s New World Symphony
Bruce Kiesling, Assistant Conductor of the Pasadena Symphony, will present Mendelssohn?s concert overture Fingal's Cave which was inspired by the composer?s visit to the Hebrides archipelago off the west coast of Scotland, and evokes sounds of the sea and rolling waves. Elgar?s Cello Concerto follows; a contemplative work that is considered a cornerstone of cello repertoire. The work was chosen for this program by our own beloved Principal Cellist, Cécilia Tsan, who will be the featured soloist. Dvorák?s Symphony No. 9, more commonly known as the New World Symphony, finishes the evening with a bang. Reputed to have been influenced by Native American music, the work features soaring horn passages interspersed with simple folk melodies reminiscent of those found in Copland?s music. Doors open at 6:30 pm. Pre-Concert talk at 7 pm
