Michael A. Anastasi is Vice President of News for the Los Angeles News Group, Executive Editor of the Press-Telegram and also serves as Region Editor for LANG's parent company, Digital First Media.
A graduate of Long Beach State University, Anastasi oversees the digital and print news-gathering operations of the LA News Group's nine daily newspapers throughout L.A. and San Bernardino counties, its six weeklies, its websites and other digital products, as well as a number of niche publications. With a print circulation of 510,000 in the September reporting period, LANG is the nation's 14th-largest news organization while focusing on providing local news to the communities it serves.
Since his appointment in August 2012, Anastasi has led a complete restructuring of LANG's newsroom to emphasize teamwork, collaboration, a digital-first workflow and mindset, and an emphasis on strong journalism, particularly watchdog and investigative journalism.
For their work in 2013, LANG journalists were recognized with a number of national and regional honors, including two prestigious Sigma Delta Chi Awards from the National Society of Professional Journalists, three National Headliner Awards, five Best of the West Awards. and 37 notifications of award from the California Newspaper Publishers Association.
Prior to returning to the L.A. area, Anastasi spent eight years as managing editor of The Salt Lake Tribune in Salt Lake City, Utah. He previously served as sports editor of the L.A. News Group, the Los Angeles Daily News and, early in his career, was a reporter and editor in Northern California.
He was president of the Associated Press Sports Editors in 2011-2012 and been active in the support of diversity in journalism for many years, including the founding of APSE's Diversity Fellowship Program. He continues to serve on the Advisory Board of CSULB's Journalism Department.
He and his wife Julie have two daughters, Grace and Alexandra.
