About Us

Long Beach Camerata Singers is the professional level choral organization serving the City of Long Beach. Led by Grammy-winning Artistic Director, Dr. James K. Bass, the 90-singer group presents four concerts per year and also serves as the official chorus for the Long Beach Symphony Orchestra.

The season kicks off with the Camerata Peace Project, presented each fall. In December, LBCS performs Handel's Messiah. ChoralFest Long Beach takes place in the spring. The year closes with Evening of Song. All concerts are performed at the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, primarily in the Beverly O'Neill Theater.

LBCS also conducts a unique and robust education program, with three different initiatives. The Camerata Kinder Konzerts serve preschoolers aged 2 to 5 at Young Horizons Child Development Centers. The program presents 60 workshops and 20 performances per year for these underserved children. Middle School students participate in the Peace Project through the Peace4Youth program, which brings the concert into the school and allows student singers to join the ensemble. Our Choral Scholars program provides scholarships for talented college-level vocal arts students to sing in the chorus and receive compensation and experience.

The Front Porch Concerts are presented in the summer months and bring a quartet of professional singers into neighborhoods all over the city of Long Beach. This series of free, informal, outdoor concerts was developed during the Pandemic, and proved so successful that it has become a part of the regular programming. Front Porch Concerts take place in June, July and August.
