DESCRIPTION:Dr. Muscat will provide a brief overview of the Catalina Island Conservancy\, including the organization's history\, its ongoing conservation\, education and recreation efforts\, and the critical role it plays in protecting this extraordinary ecological destination off the coast of Southern California and Long Beach.\n\n\n\nDr. Muscat has served as President and CEO of the Catalina Island Conservancy since July of 2003\, coming to the Conservancy from the Natural History Museum and the California Science Center. Ann lived on Catalina Island for eight years in the 1980's\, conducting marine research and serving as Director of the University of Southern California's Wrigley Marine Science Center at Big Fisherman Cove.\n\n\n\nAnn has a B.S. in Biology from the University of Detroit\, a M.S. from San Diego State University\, and a Ph.D. in Biological Science from the University of Southern California.  Ann has worked throughout her career to promote the public understanding of science\, science-based conservation\, and environmental education. She has been invited to lecture in China and India on her ecological and museological work\, and she was a Research Associate in the United States Antarctic Program.
